DISKOS or DITIKOS

Diskos or Ditikos (means west in Greek) is a gulf west of the Lendas village at the southern part of the

Heraklion province. Before you enter Lendas, you should see an asphalt road leading to the right. Follow it:

Diskos is about 1 km away - at the west side of the headland you see in front of you. "Dytikos" means

"Western". The western and central part of the beach was occupied by naturist wild campers. The eastern end

(east of the tavernas) was the most traditional nudist beach with nice sand.

RED BEACH MATALA

In Matala town you find Zafirias hotel at your left hand. Immediately after this hotel take a left and fellow

this road. When the asphalt finishes keep on to the dirt track and you are on the right path. It climbs to 80m

above sea level. There is a less steep approach if you can find it. Continue through the town until you reach

the sign on the left for the "Marinero" bar. To the left is a path signposted to George's bar and the Mythos

bar. Turn on to this path, but instead of turning immediately right towards the two bars, turn left past the front

of an old house. This leads to the path over the hill. There is a gate opening on the path which leads down to

the beach. Nudism is allowed at the end of the beach, as report refer on summer 2006.

PREVELI

To reach Preveli by car, follow the instructions to Drimiskianos above, park at the tavernas which offer free

parking, and walk west along the footpath to Preveli (5 minutes). There is a gate opening on the path which leads

down to the beach. As you leave the monastery, you may park at the roadside near a trailer canteen and walk

down to Preveli Beach. Palm Beach is a sandy cove at the end of Kourtaliotiko Gorge. The area resembles a

tropical lagoon with its palms, oleanders, waterfalls and stream which flows into the sea.

SKINARIA

Skinaria is very nice beach, is reached via a fairly long but satisfactory road from Lefkogia. Skinaria Beach

Hotel, set back from the beach. Naturism was being practised on the left hand side (looking towards the sea)

despite the fact that the (clothed) diving school was in full session on the right hand side.

  AGIA ROUMELI

Not easy: you can either walk or take the ferryboat from Hora Sfakion or Sougia. There are no roads leading to

Agia Roumeli. The beach is quite nice, varying between fine and coarse pebbles. The part nearest to the village gets

crowded during the afternoon with Samaria walkers wanting to cool off but walk 200 meters and you are almost

alone. In the morning and once the last ferryboat leaves it is almost deserted. Nudism is OK away from the village.

In summer 2006 were 90% clothes and 10% nudists.

SOUGIA

The beach village of Sougia is situated 70 kilometers south from the old capitol Chania. You can reach it from

Chania in a 2 hours drive through beautiful green mountains. The westbound boats from Hora Sfakia stop here as

well on their way to Paleochora. Sougia is a small village with not many houses on the beach. It will probably stay

this way for much longer. Sougia is a historical site where a lot of escavations still have to take place. This is the

reason why it is not allowed to build houses and no land is given out for sale, so an extra guarantee that it will not

be exploited for mass tourism. Allthough there is a sign opposite the taveerne on the corner of the main road saying

that 'nudism is prohibited' Sougia is mainly a nudist beach. It is long stretched and beautiful with pebbles and sand,

the atmosphere of the village is cosy, and the people very friendly. nudists 20% , clothes 80%.

GLIKA NERA (SWEET WATER)

Another former insider tip. It is still a very spectacular and quiet beach, called "Sweet water beach" because if

you dig a hole on the beach, sweet water will seep into it from the ground. Nudism and camping are OK. Don't be

an idiot and pitch your tent just below the high cliffs: there is always a slight risk of a goat passing by and dislodging

some stones. Don't attempt to climb up the cliff, it is unstable and some people have gotten themselves killed doing

it. You can walk to Glyka Nera from Loutro or from Sfakia in about an hour.

KOMOS

40 km south from Rethimnon on a good road. You can also get to Plakias along the small coastal road from

Hora Sfakion. Bus services from Rethimnon.

A long bay, a mix of pebbles and sand.It doesn't get very crowded. The sea is fairly safe for swimming, unless it

gets very windy (which it often does in Plakias). Nudism OK at the east end of the beach.
